Sandalkad Estate, Madapur, Coorg, India
1170 masl, Shamveel Nizam and Faisal Siddiqui
Sandalkad Estate sits in Ibnivalvadi Village, Coorg, at 1170 metres above sea level. With a history spanning over 170 years and seven generations of coffee farming, it is one of the oldest family-run estates in the region. Today the estate is led by Shamveel Nizam and Faizan Siddiqui, who together manage over 300 acres of coffee, spices, and orange orchards across the Sandalkad Group of Estates.
The Western Ghats, where the estate sits, is one of 25 global biodiversity hotspots and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Coffee here grows under a two-tier canopy of native shade trees — silver oak, orange, and jackfruit — alongside black pepper as the primary spice intercrop. Every coffee they produce is 100% shade grown and bird friendly. The estate holds both Rainforest Alliance and Bird Friendly certifications.
Sandalkad has been pioneering unique processing methods and actively educating local growers about emerging coffee trends and sustainability practices. Their commitment to quality has been formally recognised — the estate is a Top 5 winner at the Fine Cup India Competition, organised by the Coffee Board of India. In 2017, Shamveel and Faizan extended their work beyond the farm by co-founding Big Cup Café in Coorg — the first specialty café in the region — with the goal of bringing estate coffee to international benchmarks and closing the gap between producer and consumer.
From Sandalkad, we source three Arabica lots from the current 2025–26 crop: a Red Honey, a Washed, and a Natural — each processed with the precision and intention that defines everything they do on this estate.
